Chrysanthemum Tea

It’s been really cold this summer in Toronto, and although I usually drink this tea during wintertime, I feel like this would be appropriate for the cold summer nights we have been having lately. The tea is caffeine-free, so it is perfect for those who have trouble sleeping and the sudden sweetness of the pieces of dried longan are like hidden treasures when you come across them.

Recipe:

2-3 chrysanthemum flowers

1 tablespoon honey (or sweetener of choice)

4-5 goji berries

4-5 pieces of dried longan

Banana Avocado Smoothie

I love bananas and I love avocados-so naturally when i have the chance to combine them.. instant favourite food. The combination of avocado and banana creates a smoothie that is creamy and naturally sweet, without having to add any sugar or use any dairy products. Another secret to the thickness of the shake is the frozen bananas-a lot of recipes call for ice but frozen bananas give the iciness without the melted watery taste.  This smoothie is refined sugar free and so refreshing on a hot day!

Recipe:

  • 3 cups almond milk (optional soy milk or regular milk substitute for non-dairy free people)
  • 5 frozen bananas
  • 1 avocado

*makes one liter approximately

This is the basic recipe and ratio of ingredients for making a pitcher, but the amount of ingredients are easily adaptable based on how thick you like your smoothie or how much you are making. Please feel free to adjust ingredients and tinker until you find your favourite combo. ENJOY!
